I enjoy working with people to create custom watercolors that are memories of special occasions.  Is there a scene that you want to remember always–perhaps a house or a familiar landscape? Or, maybe you want to give a painting that will be cherished to someone who is getting married, moving, or retiring.

To start a commission, I like to take photos on location, but I can work from your photos, or just a word picture of what you would like to see in the painting.  Usually, I can schedule and complete a painting in 2 months.

Pricing varies according to the size of the painting and the time it takes to paint it, but I can give you a price range based on size so you will know what to expect.  I will ask for a deposit that will commit you to this project as much as I will be committed.

If you are interested in commissioning me to do a painting, please go to my Contact Page to tell me what you have in mind.

Previous clients have told me that I am particularly sensitive to their ideas and like the way I have interpreted them in watercolor. Here are images and stories of some people who have enjoyed my personalized service:

Commissioned painting of a Lake Sunapee cottage

“Point of View”

A family that has enjoyed a cottage on Lake Sunapee, NH, for many years wanted to celebrate a “special birthday” for their mother by giving her a portrait of the cottage that is full of their summer memories.

“NKYN”

A group of Navy men who had served aboard the USS Yorktown in the 1980’s got the news that the ship was to be scrapped.  I painted the flying signal flags that represented the Yorktown’s identification so that they would have a special keepsake.

“Camp at Sunset”

When we were camping at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina, we met a woman who had lovingly restored a vintage Terry camper. She and her husband often take time off to camp and do a little fly-fishing in the mountain streams near Boone. On learning that I am a painter, she commissioned a painting of the camper as it looks when they are on one of their fishing expeditions. This was such a fun painting to do, because I enjoy camping too, and could really capture the homey feeling of the campsite.

“Lisa’s Wedding Bouquet”

Some of my clients have discovered that a painting of the wedding bouquet can be a really special way of preserving memories. The way it works: they contact me to choose a size and price for the painting. Then they send a card promising the bride and groom a painting of her bouquet, and take several pictures of the bridal bouquet when they attend the wedding. After they send the pictures to me, I get to paint the beautiful floral arrangement for them to present to the young couple.

Custom painting of the Eastman Covered Bridge in New Hampshire.

“Eastman Covered Bridge”

There are many second home owners in Eastman, NH, who come to enjoy kayaking on the lake, hiking, skiing, or many other seasonal activities that are closer to nature than their city-living allows.

A young family was fond of the Eastman covered bridge, and they loved the commissioned painting we worked out because it looks like you are observing the bridge from a kayak.

Custom painting of Portsmouth, NH, at night

“Nightlight”

This is a second commission for a woman who loves to commemorate her friends’ wedding anniversaries by sending them a painting of the place where they got married.  Her friends love some of the New England places that I do, so these have been easy paintings.  This one is of Great Island Common in Portsmouth, NH.
