JoAnn Pippin has been enthusiastically painting watercolors for over 20 years, and has recently been awarded Signature Status in the Southern Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of North Carolina. Her major inspiration comes from observing nature, which she translates into landscapes and environmental still life close-ups. She and her husband have cruised from Maine to Key West while living on a sailboat, and criss-crossed the US many times in their camper. These trips allow her ample forest, garden, seashore and mountain subjects for her paintings.
Her primary studies were at the Art League School in Alexandria, VA, and she has also attended workshops with many nationally acclaimed artists. Her landscapes and close-ups of nature have appeared in galleries and juried art shows in Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, New Hampshire, Maine, California, New Mexico, and Colorado.
She loves to display her paintings and tell stories about the subjects as well as the techniques she used as she painted them. She has shared her skill with others who want to paint by teaching classes in watercolor at the Craft Enrichment Program of Appalachian State University, the Florence Thomas Art School, the Schoodic Education Adventure program at Acadia National Park, and the El Morro National Monument volunteer artist program.
She is a Signature Member of the Southern Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, and President of the High Country Watermedia Society. She is also a member of the Blue Ridge Art Clan, Ashe and Watauga County Arts Councils, and the High Country artist group ArtMix.
